Ashtakam is a divine hymn composed by Totakacharya
One of the main disciples of Sri Adi Shankara composed an octave of verses in praise of the Guru Bhagwan. Totakashtakam is a divine hymn composed by Totakacharya to celebrate the greatness of Guru Adi Shankara. Having come to Totakacharya, the compiler of this ashtakam, he is one of the main disciples of Adi Shankaracharya, and his original name was Giri. In this article we have compiled English lyrics of Totakashtakam Shloka and Hindi meaning.
Totakashtakam was compiled by Giri (Totakacharya), one of the main disciples of Jagatguru Adi Shankaracharya. Padmapada, one of the four main disciples of Adi Shankaracharya, asked his teacher to begin a session without waiting for Giri. He once praised Acharya with ashta-slokas in the Totakashtakam.
The enlightened Giri voluntarily composed Totakashtakam, a Sanskrit poem, praising Guru Adi Shankar. Totakacharya, a disciple of Adi Shankaracharya, wrote this Stotram praising Adi Shankaracharya. This was composed by Giri in honor of his Guru Adisankara.
He took pleasure in taking care of the personal comforts of the acharya as a devoted servant. Every word of this exquisite hymn reveals the absolute devotion of its author to Shankara. One day Giri was busy collecting flowers for the puja when Adi Shankara sat down to begin his Advaita Vedanta lesson.
